Eduard Martín-Borregón

Data Journalist with studies both in journalism and economics. Master Degree in Investigative, Data and Visualization Journalism at the URCJ with a Google Excellence Scholarship and the Barcelona Datos Grant. I started the data journalism section at El Periodico de Catalunya and I’ve work as a freelance data journalist for El Mundo, The Gates Foundation, Antoni Gutiérrez-Rubí, Ara.cat and Universitat Pompeu Fabra, among others.

In November 2011 I cofounded Data’n’Press a data journalism and big data studio. We have worked for El Periódico de Catalunya, Vilaweb, eldiario.es and El Confidencial; but we have also developed our own projects like twitterencatala.org and @resultados20n.

Not only do I practice data journalism, I also promote it and teach it. I have been a guest lecturer at UAB, Blanquerna-URL, UVIC and URV. I’m a trainer at Col·legi de Periodistes and CCCB, and I’ve given workshops at the Tv3 (Spain) and El Universal (México) newsroom. I also organize hackathons and data expeditions, and I’ve given several conferences and have written specialized articles about data journalism, open data and new digital paradigms.

I promote open data through OKFN Spain (I’m a founder partner) organizing the Jornadas de Periodismo de Datos y Datos Abiertos, and I’m part of the initial group of Escuela de Datos, the Spanish speaking chapter of School of Data. Furthermore, I’m part of several civic projects as the Terrassa’s Citizens Municipality Observatory, that strengthen transparency trough budget visualizations and information requests.

Apart from working with data, I’ve directed two documentaries: 5x55Terrassa (first documentary financed by crowdfunding in Spain) and A les vuit al Raval. During two years and a half I directed a TV show at Canal Terrassa Vallès. I collaborate as columnist and photographer for different media (form Terrassa most of all) and I make corporate communication, digital consultancy and websites for enterprises, institutions and NGO’s.
